In Pakistan, e-commerce has observed a tremendous growth in the last five years. Crossing 7 billion already in the market in 2023, it is expanding at an annual rate of almost 35 percent (PCMI, 2024)2. We are discussing one of the strongest developing e-commerce in South Asia. This growth is motivated by a number of factors. 

To begin with, the penetration of the internet has been higher than ever before. According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the number of broadband subscriptions has increased more than twice as compared to 2018. Although Amazon does not yet have its retail business in Pakistan, Pakistani sellers are seeking means to access the international markets using different platforms. 

The State Bank of Pakistan has offered policies, which enable cross-border e-commerce payments and it has become easier when SMEs export. Nevertheless, we are in the initial phases as compared to such markets as China, India, or even Bangladesh. In Pakistan, e-commerce constitutes less than 2 percent of the total retail sales (Profit, 2025)4. This market is a colossal opportunity.
